EPA’S New Renovation ,
Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) 40 CFR 745

Effective April 2010, a new EPA regulation requires all contractors and others performing renovations on properties constructed prior to 1978, receive a certification by an EPA accredited trainer.

EPA’S New Renovation, RRP Certification Deadline
Extended

For violations of the RRP Rule's renovation-worker certification requirement, EPA will not enforce against individual renovation workers if they have applied or enrolled in training by not later than September 30, 2010 . They must enroll in certificatied renovator classes to train contractors in practices necessary for compliance with the final rules. Renovators must complete the training by December 31, 2010.

Reminder
On October 11, 2009, Assembly Bill 1020 was signed into California State law. This bill adds Section 116064.2 to the California Health and Safety Code.

This new section incorporates provisions of the federal Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Act into California State law and is intended to prevent suction drain entrapments and drownings. The new law requires that all public pools be retrofitted with approved drain covers.
